Good Friday Service April 22nd,2011

Good Friday Service

Good Friday observed at St.Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Church Little Mount commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.

All  spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the cross. The biblical account was read of Jesus’ death on the cross, or crucifixion.

Our Church youth decorated a model calvary hill with symbol of crucifixion of Jesus Christ and in the end people came and kissed the cross.

At last Parish Priest blessed Kanji payar and served to everyone.

Maundy Thursday Service April 21st,2011

Maundy Thursday Service

Maundy Thursday is observed during Holy Week on the Thursday before Easter at St.Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Church Little Mount. Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper when Jesus shared the Passover meal with his disciples on the night before he was crucified. Maundy Thursday services are typically more solemn occasions, marked by the shadow of Jesus’ betrayal.

Parish Priest washed the feet of twelve youths from the parish; this demonstrated how Christians are to love one another through humble service.

In the end of service, parish priest called up eldest father from the crowd to cut the Kalthappam Appam and distribute among children’s and then parish priest distributed for others

Palm Sunday Service April 19th,2011

Palm Sunday Service was held on 17th April as Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday. On this day, Jesus, accompanied by His disciples, entered the city of Jerusalem in triumph.  An enthusiastic crowd greeted Jesus by spreading palm branches along the road and shouting Hosanna.  Services on Palm Sunday traditionally begin with a joyful procession.  Worshipers carry palm leaves or wear crosses made of palm.

Annual Retreat April 06th,2011

In connection with the Lenten season, St. Thomas Syro Malabar Parish conducted an Annual retreat on 03-04-2011 at Bonsecures Sisters Convent School ground, Little Mount. Rev.Fr.Jose Panthalookaran (Former chaplain, Chennai Mission) Vicar, Nithyasahaya Matha Church, West Chalakudy, was the retreat preacher. Renewal of Christian family life was the main thrust of his preaching.   Whether you’re married or not , this retreat helped us a real life direction on building up the marriage that God created for us. It is one of the most challenging, yet rewarding , experiences of life.

This retreat was open to all couples who wish to come and be instructed and encouraged in their marriages by what the Bible has to say concerning the blessings and responsibilities of the husband and wife relationship. The retreat for married couples was focused on offering spiritual guidance to couples and helping them to overcome the challenges of a fulfilling married life.Rev.Fr.Jose Panthalookaran explained and enacted with light moments of day-to-day life relationships among couples. Showers of blessings were poured out at the time of Holy Hour, Confession and Holy Qurbana.

At the same time there were a Christeen retreat done for the Catechism students guided by Rev. Fr. George Athapilly CMI and Mrs. Sophy Joseph.

Retreats provided opportunities for parishioners to meditate, pray, learn and participate in fellowship. The coordinators(especially Rijo Xavier and Rajesh Joy), Youths, Trustees and Secretary made the retreat a memorable one — from the venue arrangement to even the type of food served.

We all from Syro Malabar little mount community thank our Parish Priest who arranged us a wonderful retreat.

It’s time to rejoice! We are proud to announce that our church website was inaugurated by Msgr. Jose Palatty, Chennai Mission Coordinator, in the presence of our beloved Parish Priest Rev.Fr. Jaison Vadakumchery on 20th March 2011. Apart from being helpful for the Syro Malabar communities in and around Little Mount, Chennai, we hope to take our mission to the entire world through this website.

Although the ultimate purpose of our website is to spread the light to the world, we are also happy that we could utilize this modern tool to the advantage of our community by readily providing details of church proceedings to our community members. In order to cater to the needs of every individual member of our church we have designed this website with attractive looks and with features that are easy to use even by novice internet users.

We strongly believe that this website would fulfill the needs of church members as well as the purpose of existence of our church.
